Frequently Asked Questions

How much total for a half beef?

It’s $3.50/lb paid to us and $1.30 or so paid to the butcher. They finish out around 400 lbs/half. So you can imagine about $1,920 total on the high end. Double that for a whole ($3,840).

Are they grass fed or grain fed?

They don’t qualify for either category. Once they’re weaned, they’re fed a total mixed ration (TMR), which is formulated by our nutritionist. Our TMR consists of 80% alfalfa haylage and the rest is barley grown and harvested by our family, as well as ingredients like canola, and brewers grain from Pacific Northwest Producers. They are fed some corn from the Midwest.

Are we organic?

No. We use herbicides to grow high quality feed on minimal ground.

Are the beef vaccinated? ANtibiotics? Growth hormones?

They receive an intranasal and oral vaccine at birth to prevent respiratory diseases that prove fatal and are highly contagious. We do this to care for our animals and prevent loss. They do not receive routine antibiotics. Only in the case that it’s needed to save the life of the animal. Drugs are never administered in such a manner that the animal would be harvested within the withdrawal time frame. They are not given any growth hormones.
